Operational Gates on Fort Knox

Chaffee Gate (main entrance): Chaffee Gate is open 24/7 (24 hours a day, 7 days a week), 365 days a year. All visitors who do not possess a military ID or Common Access Card (CAC) are strongly encouraged to use this gate. Foreign National Visitors (FNV) must initially enter through Chaffee Gate. Installation maps and driving directions to key post locations can also be obtained at the Chaffee Gate Welcome Center, which is open 24/7. Brandenburg Gate: Brandenburg Gate is open from 6 AM to 1 PM Monday through Friday and closed on weekends, holidays, and training holidays. Note: All oversized vehicles and vehicles carrying hazardous material will continue to use this gate. If access is required during times of closure, call the Military Police at (502) 624-2111.

Wilson Gate: Wilson Gate is open from 6 AM to 6 PM Monday through Friday and closed on weekends and federal holidays.

Entrance Requirements

Personnel: All Personnel entering the installation must be in possession of a valid and current picture identification issued by a government agency such as a state, federal, local government, or foreign government identification.

Visitors: Visitors must have a valid reason for requesting access to the installation. Proper documentation must be presented in order to gain access. Proper documentation includes a valid driver's license.

Contractor: Contractors enter the installation in the same manner as any visitor. However, if a history is identified that would require a Sponsor, the individual would require a letter from their present employer stating the reason they are entering Fort Knox.

Foreign National Visitors (FNV): Foreign National Visitors must initially enter through Chaffee Gate to be vetted. Anytime thereafter, the FNV may enter through any gate.

** Note: All motor vehicles must be properly registered and insured. Frequent checks of these documents are conducted by security, with zero tolerance.
