Aircraft Rescue Firefighting (ARFF) Training

The Fort Knox Fire Department trains hard every day. One of the areas of training is Aircraft Rescue Firefighting (ARFF), which is an intense hands-on class requiring firefighters to expose themselves to live fire exercises in very realistic situations.

The evolution focuses on entry into an aircraft, emergency shutdown, door operation, cargo containers, engine fire procedures, wheel fire procedures, and basic anatomy of aircraft that includes construction considerations. Wearing full turnout gear, the Fort Knox Fire Department continues to refresh themselves with FAA topics such as aircraft familiarization, use of fire hoses, nozzles and turrets, emergency aircraft evacuation assistance, firefighting operations, and aircraft cargo hazards.

Along with training at Chicago O'Hare's training facility, the Fort Knox Fire Department also receives training from West Virginia University's ARFF training program that complies with FAA part 139.

The Fort Knox Fire Department strives to provide the best service possible for all our customers by doing our best to stay current on all aspects of our job.
