CSM Bergmann is currently assigned as the Brigade Command Sergeant Major for 4th Cavalry Brigade, First Army Division East, Fort Knox, KY. His last assignment was as the Battalion Command Sergeant Major for 1st Battalion, 9th Infantry, 2 BCT, 2nd ID, stationed at Fort. Carson, CO. He is a native of Silver Spring, MD, and enlisted in the United States Army in January 1985. He completed Basic Training at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO, and attended AIT at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO, as a Motor Transport Operator (64C). He graduated on the Commanders list of Honor Graduates in May 1985 and was recognized for achieving the maximum score on the “end of cycle test”. His assignments are as follows: Charlie Battery 1st BN 35th Field Artillery at Ft. Stewart GA; Alpha Company 1/75th Ranger Regiment Hunter Army Airfield, GA; HHC 75th Ranger Regiment at Ft. Benning, GA; 3/75th Ranger Regiment at Ft. Benning, GA; 6th Ranger Training BDE at Eglin Air Force Base, FL; Bravo Company 3-187th IN BDE; Alpha Company 3-187; 2-9 IN, Camp Casey, Korea; and 1st Battalion, 503rd Infantry. numerous times to include the National Training Center, JOTC in Panama, and Operation “East Hills” in Jordan. CSM Bergmann participated in the 1991 “Desert Shield” Airborne Operation into Kuwait. He deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom-1 in 2002 and again four months later in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. On 2 January 2006, CSM Bergmann deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom-2.
CSM Bergmann is a graduate of numerous Army, Joint and Foreign Military Schools including; PLDC, BNCOC, ANCOC, First Sergeant Course, Air Assault School, Airborne School, Jumpmaster School, Pre-Ranger and Ranger School, Naval Gunfire Spotter Course, Military Free fall Parachute Course, SERE High Risk Course, Pathfinder Course, Special Operations Training, Jungle Operations Training Center, Instructor Training Course, Tactical Certification Course, Dynamics of International Terrorism Course, Fast Rope Master Course. CSM Bergmann graduated from the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy, class 54, in June 2005.
CSM Bergmann’s military awards and decorations include; Bronze Service Star (3 OLC), Army Meritorious Service Medal (3 OLC), Army Commendation Medal (3 OLC and “V” device), Army Achievement Medal (7 OLC), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal with Bronze Arrowhead, Parachutist Badge with Bronze Star, South West Asia Service Medal, Foreign Parachutist Badges (Jordanian, British, Canadian and Egyptian), Army Good Conduct Medal (6th Award), the National Defense Ribbon, Armed Forces Service Ribbon, Kuwait Liberation Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Expert Infantryman’s Badge, Combat Infantryman’s Badge (2nd award), Master Parachutist Badge, Pathfinder Badge, the Air Assault Badge and the Ranger Tab.
